Long story short

There was a minor case of miscommunication, and I'm now in San Fransisco getting ready for Super Tuesday.

Mom and Dad, don't worry, my teachers all know I'm gone and I brought homework with me.

The Quackoff

Intoxicated people handling live animals, 10 pounds of bull testicle, ducks drinking beer. The 28th annual Quackoff in Avoca, Nebraska.

Talking Mountain

Quick, name one band concept as cool as two guys wearing monster masks reminiscent of "Where The Wild Things Are".

Late-night pool with the B's

Good way to wrap up a week that hasn't been going all that well.

Nada Eagle Bull

Nada Eagle Bull, one of the five women I interviewed in Pine Ridge, passed away a few days ago. I suppose under any other circumstance, I took this news harder than one would expect for only having spent six hours in her house, but if you had met her, you would understand.

In case you're into that sort of thing

Random frame from the Anime Convention in November.

Personally, I tend to fancy girls with no tails.

It's the time of the season

For loving? No. For entering the three main photo contests (NPPA, NNPA and POYI) that I have no chance of winning? Yes.

So in honor of this, all week I will try to post different images that didn't make the cut on here or in the paper. For my two or three faithful blog readers, it'll be a chance for them to see something they haven't before. For me, it's a palette cleanser for what is shaping up to be the worst first week of school in my life.

What I learned in 2007

I was in an unusually reflective mood last night, and felt the need to write down what I learned in (or around, in one case) this past year. Here are 10 of them.

1. Things can (and most likely will) get worse.

2. Athena is probably the one girl that will always be glad to see me.
3. How to pee while holding a 400mm lens.

4. My family has become an increasingly important part of my life.
5. School work needs to become increasingly important in my life.

6. Never, ever, ever get in a fight with this man.
7. Every photographer I meet is more talented than I am.

8. Even if you never show them to anybody, self portraits are a lot of fun.
9. How to drive stick shift.
10. Despite everything, I must be doing something right, because I have a great group of friends.
